Gabrielle Union, 50, admitted that she felt entitled to cheat on her first husband because she was earning more than him.
In a recent episode of Dax Shepherd’s podcast Armchair Expert, the actress admitted she felt entitled to cheat on Chris Howard, who allegedly also cheated on her.
The former NFL player and the Bring It On star were married from 2001 to 2006.
“Neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,” Union expressed.
“Part of it was keeping up with his activities. … I just felt entitled to it as well. I was paying all the bills. I was working my ass off, and I felt like that’s what comes [with] the spoils of riches and, like my dad before me, whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want — is what I thought.
“And it was just dysfunctional from Day One.”
Union wished she had more guilt about what happened but she just thought of it as “a stupid relationship that should never have gotten out of the dating phase.”
She admitted: “I definitely was not getting Wife of the Year Awards. I had some focus issues, you know.”
The actress then added that she acted out in response to her ex-husband’s behavior. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing?’ You’re gonna feel this one.”
Union understood that her behavior was reflective of a missing part within herself.
“I was horny for validation and having certain kinds of guys like me and want me. That made me feel like I was worthy and good and valuable and deserving,” she expressed.
Despite trying to seek therapy, they soon realized that they were just not meant to be.
