A loving father died from a broken heart after his daughter’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
47-year-old Angela Courtney was an air stewardess and a mother of a 6-year-old boy who succumbed to pancreatic cancer on January 3 after doctors told her that her condition was terminal.
Just three weeks before her passing, Angela’s father, Tony, died suddenly from a heart attack. As the family believes, the elderly man died of a “broken heart” because he couldn’t accept his daughter’s tragic diagnosis and prognosis.
“I don’t write many things on Facebook but I think I need to tell the world what it has lost over the last 20 days,” Tony’s son and Angela’s brother, Anthony, wrote in his Facebook post.
“We lost my dad in December to a broken heart. Contemplating the thought of losing a daughter, we lost a dear sister yesterday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Losing both my dad and our Angela in such a short period of time has left a huge void in my life and the lives of the whole family that can never be filled.”
The heartbreaking statement continued: “I do take a lot of strength from the love and positivity they both shared with so many people during their brief time on this planet and the legacy they have both left behind and the knowledge that they are together again on some fantastic journey.”
Speaking out was also Anthony’s surviving sister, Beverly, who said the family is convinced that Tony died of a broken heart because “he just couldn’t see his daughter die.”
“Angela was honestly one of the most kind hearted people, she was just a beautiful soul. Nobody could say a bad word about her. She was kind, friendly, she was funny and she just lived for her family,” she said.
Following a string of tragedies in the family, a joint funeral service for Tony and Angela was held by their loved ones in Liverpool, England.
