The evil father of a young boy who lost his legs and was left with hip, jaw, hand, and wrist damage after being tortured has had his release from prison blocked.
It was in 2018 when Anthony Smith was sentenced to ten years in prison for inflicting serious injuries on a newborn.
He was set to be freed after serving only half his sentence but Justice Secretary Mr. Dominic Raab used new powers in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act to block the release.
This comes after Mr. Raab stopped the release of Tony’s mother Jody Simpson, who was also imprisoned for ten years.
The couple must now convince parole chiefs that they are no longer a threat before they can be released from prison.
“The first duty of government is to protect the most vulnerable. I will do everything in my power to prevent another child enduring the abuse inflicted on Tony,” Mr. Raab said. “That’s why I’ve put Anthony Smith’s release on hold.”
Tony’s adoptive mother Paula Hudgell said to Sunday People: “As we hoped, Mr Raab blocked Smith’s release on the grounds that he too, like Simpson, is still considered a risk to society.
“I was also told there is still no date for Simpson’s parole board hearing and it is unlikely to be any time soon so I imagine it will be the same for Smith – any extra time behind bars is justice.”
According to reports, Smith and Simpson tortured Tony in 2014 when he was only a few weeks old. He was left with bone fractures which resulted in sepsis and multiple organ failure.
By the time the baby was finally seen by doctors, his injuries were already so severe that he had to have both legs amputated.
Now 7, Tony also has hand, jaw, wrist and hip damage and is deaf in one ear.
In a statement, Paula told how the injuries affect Tony’s life. “The injuries run to more than six pages. Tony is still far from being a healthy little boy. He faces further operations and his life will be an endless circle of hospital appointments.”
