A delivery driver who had ‘nowhere to put a package’ dropped the 10kg (22lb) parcel on top of a baby who was sleeping inside a stroller outside their family home in Sweden.
In Scandinavian countries, it is common to leave babies sleeping in a stroller outside as it is believed that it brings children health benefits and the air helps them sleep better.
But the mother of the baby was left horrified when a large parcel was placed on top of her child.
Taking to Instagram, the furious mother said: “Congratulations, you crushed a sleeping baby in its pram with a 10kg parcel and have no shame. Thank God the baby is OK! Never again!”
The photo was later shared by blogger Camilla Gervide with the caption: “@hellofresh and @gordondelivery deliver a box of groceries weighing about 10 kg, and places it a little neatly on top of a stroller, in which there is a baby sleeping.
“Fortunately, the baby survives without injury, but it could clearly have had much more serious consequences if the carton had been placed differently, on top of the pram.”
The mother contacted Gordon Delivery and was offered 250 Swedish kronor ($23) in compensation.
A spokesperson for the company, Mikael Sahlsten, told the Swedish outlet Aftonbladet newspaper: “When no one opened up, the driver wanted to leave the parcel on the doorstep, but he thought the surface was too damp.
“He thought the pram would be more practical. He didn’t see the baby. The mother called us immediately and we made contact with the driver right away.”
“He was very sorry about the whole thing. He drove back to the customer and apologized with flowers and pralines. He also wanted to know how the child was doing,” Mr. Sahlsten added.
The delivery driver was in tears when he apologized to the mother, the Metro reported.
