A father was left furious after his 6-year-old daughter returned home from school with a ‘disgusting’ gift.
The young student made the gift at Connolly Primary School in Perth, Australia. While the first slides were sweet, the final message seemed to hold a dark meaning.
Some of the messages were: “Frog – For the times when you need to jump to it,” “Mintie – Take when you have experienced one of those ‘moments,’” and “Banana – For the days when you have gone round the bend.”
However, the last slide left dad Trent Howard fuming. With a picture of a bullet, the message read: “Bullet – Take when all else fails.”
Speaking to 9News, he said: “To create this and distribute this, disgusting. If you’ve had enough, shoot yourself, what else does it say.”
The furious dad added: “I have a weird sense of humor, [but] that’s not part of any sense of humor to anybody.”
They complained to the school, with the girl’s mother Reana telling the news outlet: “They wanted it to be funny, that was my interpretation of what the teacher had said to me – she was wanting to be funny. It wasn’t funny.”
Psychologist Bailey Bosch told the news outlet that the teacher’s ‘joke’ could have serious implications for both the parent and the child.
“Children can take things very literally, it can play on their minds, they might not have the language to articulate what’s distressing them,” Bosch said.
“And let’s also remember that there’s adults around that could be completely triggered by some words such as ‘bullets’, ‘death’, etc.”
The school has since apologized to the family and said that it will not repeat such activity in the future.
