A couple made headlines after getting married at a burn unit following the groom’s tragic accident just one month before the wedding.
Preston and Tanesha Cobb were looking forward to their big day – July 22 – since their engagement in September 2022.
While their wedding day was all planned out, their plans fell into the water when the decorated Iraq War veteran suffered an accident at his workplace.
According to the reports, Preston slipped and fell into a chemical spill and was left with burns to 32% of his body. He also lost four fingers and nine toes to his injuries.
Following the incident, the couple immediately knew that their wedding wouldn’t go through as planned. That, however, didn’t stop the pair from tying the knot on their chosen day.
“There’s nothing that would stop me from marrying him. Nothing. I knew that this day would come. I didn’t think it would be like this,” Tanesha explained.
To make this possible, doctors and nurses at JMS Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, helped the couple organize the venue at the burn unit and prepare food, flowers, and even a DJ.
“I was like, ‘Man, she’s not going to want to marry me. I’m not the same person that asked her to marry me,” Preston said as he admitted he feared the wedding would be called off after the accident.
“Even though my condition, it still didn’t stop me from marrying the woman of my dreams.”
Recalling the sweet moment was also Mary Cook, one of the nurses working at the burn unit, who said she wanted to help the couple after hearing their story.
“I wanted to give him something positive out of all this negative. Preston was adamant that he was not going to change his wedding date,” she explained.
Sincere congratulations to Preston and Tanesha on their wedding!
