A 10-year-old boy has detailed how he escaped a woman who was following him from school by going inside a local store and asking a 17-year-old cashier to pretend to be his mom.
Surveillance cameras captured the attempted kidnapping in Pennslyvania. The woman can be seen walking alongside Sammy Green before he went inside Dani Bee Funky store in Pottstown.
The woman waited outside as fourth-grader walked to the counter and asked the cashier, Hannah Daniels, to act like she’s his mother.
Speaking to WPVI, the boy’s father Sam Green said that his son asked the 17-year-old to ‘act like you’re my mom’ because the ‘lady is following me.’
Daniels was quick to put herself between the young boy and the stranger, who was holding the door open.
The cashier then pulled the door closed and locked it. That’s when the woman finally left the place.
Sammy’s father said he was left shaken after watching the video of his son being followed.
“When we were watching that video, I cried every time I saw it,” Mr. Green said.
Recalling the moment he realized someone was following him, Sammy told CBS Philadelphia: “She was like, ‘I’m going to Wawa, are you going there? What are you getting from Wawa? Where’s your family at?’”
Sammy said she had never seen the woman before but she claimed that he was supposed to go with her as she knew his family.
The 10-year-old said he was ‘still shaking’ when he was in the store.
“To see my child looking for help because he was afraid basically for his life, that cuts you deep,” Mr. Green expressed.
Sammy credits his dad with teaching him to always be aware of his surroundings and to be wary of strangers.
Sammy and Daniels are both being praised for preventing what could’ve been a possible kidnapping.
