A baby girl who was dumped at a hospital by her own mother has finally received a name and birth certificate four months after she was born.
Baby Justyce was left by her mother, named only Jessica, who passed away before registering the child’s birth.
Without proper documentation, the baby could not obtain health insurance she badly needs for birth complications.
The infant, whose mother had struggled with mental illness and addiction before she died, needs physical therapy for paralysis in her arm.
Foster mom Yolanda Allen-Little revealed how she had to hire an attorney to help her obtain documents but the request required multiple motions to be filed in the D.C. Superior Court.
Speaking to the Washington Post, she said: “I feel like a burden has been lifted.”
Allen-Little also served as a foster mom for Justyce’s biological mom, revealing that she had stayed in contact with Jessica as she struggled with addiction and mental illness.
Before Justyce was born, Allen-Little begged Jessica to stay in a psychiatric ward to get the help she needed but she fled and left her baby at a hospital in Washington, DC.
Justyce was born with coca*ne in her system. It took ten days for her to be released into Allen-Little’s care.
A GoFundMe set up for the youngster has raised over $30,000. The money will help cover hospital and legal bills and also education for when she grows up.
Allen-Little said that a community has gathered around to support Justyce.
“They say it takes a village and the villagers have been coming through,” she expressed. “She has really created a serious village.”
The foster mom also said that she just wanted the baby to ‘know she matters, that her life matters.’
