One ESPN writer is going viral with his claims about how troubled he felt during the Olympics opening ceremony, right after he laid his eyes on the prominence of the American flag.
Writer Bill Rhoden explained on Monday how much he condemned the sight of the American flag because he claims it reminded him of the Capital Riots that rocked the nation’s capital on January 6th. “Every time I see the flag, it continuously makes me wonder what America am I living in,” he went on to explain.
“We have all been witness to the rise of white nationalism in the country,” he added with more emphasis on how he just couldn’t enjoy the Olympics with the flag taking center stage. But that wasn’t all he had to say in terms of bold statements.
Yes, the writer also spoke about he strongly felt that the Olympics should have been canceled because of the rise in Coronavirus cases as well as the spread of the dangerous Delta variant in the world.
For those who may not be aware, Bill is a prominent and renowned writer for the sports channel and that’s why his words certainly took so many people aback as this was certainly not something they expected from him.
But Bill was not shy to speak his mind as he appeared on the CBS Morning Show on Monday, adding how his favorite part from the sporting event in the past related to attending the opening ceremony. But this year, it was a whole different ballgame altogether.
“Now I realize that you know man, after these four years, in particular, I think had it wrong all along,” he mentioned.
Referring to one of his articles where he mentioned in the past how these ceremonies tend to bring the great side of nationalism between different countries, now he says that he disagrees, keeping in mind the events that took place in the US recently. “I thought nationalism is good but now I feel the opposite. It’s not good, and over time, we’ve seen the great rise of white nationalism,” he explained.
