According to reports, the officer took to Facebook to explain how the 5-year-old boy shot dead for riding his bike should have ducked down. The news spread like wildfire, spreading rage, and anger amongst the thousands of followers for Cannon Hinnant.
Only recently, Cannon Hinnant received bullets to his head, causing him to succumb to his wounds. The innocent child was playing with his sisters in the neighborhood. However, things soon turned into a nightmare as he got shot by a neighbor, for riding into his yard.
The exact details revealing why the incident took place in the first place aren’t clear. Meanwhile, many experts and close watchers of the case suspect that race has something to do with it.
Cannon was allegedly killed in front of his sisters, in the most gruesome manner imaginable. His death saddened the entire world, who grieved alongside the family. At the same time, thousands of mourners and supporters poured in donations to show love for his cause via a GoFundMe page.
Today, the detention officer suspended faces great criticism while receiving suspension terms, until further notice.
Prison officer suspended after baseless remarks
One detention officer is sitting under suspension after making insensitive comments. The officer claims that the innocent 5-year-old child. Cannon Hinnant, should have ducked down the shooting. And if that was the case, he would have survived.
Meanwhile, the baseless comments caused an uproar amongst the thousands of fans for the poor child that lost his life for no reason.
The officer posted the comments on Facebook. Hence, the story went viral in seconds, leading to his suspension over the sensitive matter. Hinnant from North Carolina received direct bullets to his head. And that’s because his neighbor shot him from a point-blank distance.
The 25-year-old accused, Darius Nathaniel Sessoms, stands behind bars. Currently, he is awaiting for his jail sentence. Meanwhile, he is charged for first-degree murder, in relation to the young boy’s death.

You can’t deny the reality about Canon’s death, There’s simply no explanation for the way that matters unfolded. What was the killer’s motive? There are a plethora of questions that still need to get answered. And these are just some of them.
Some experts and followers who studied the case claimed that race could be a major possibility for the killing. However, it doesn’t seem like that. And that’s because his parents’ denied any sort of link.
Cannon’s GoFundMePage, set up by his grandmother, received a whopping $750,000. And that just goes to show how many lives were affected by his tragic death.
Officer suspended says Cannon’s death could be avoided
After making national headlines, Cannon’s death received some rather baseless comments via social media.
And one such example is how the detention officer suspended says, ‘he should’ve ducked.’ And that just goes to show some people’s thinking regarding the chilling case.
Rome Smith, the Black officer who made the remarks, works at the Juvenile Detention Center, located in Cumberland. He also went on claiming how many news reports discredit black people. Furthermore, he claimed how stories accuse Blacks of doing some sort of wrongdoing.
The officer also played the blame game. According to reports, he blamed Cannon’s own parents for not looking after their child. This included some swearing and cursing in the message too.
Nevertheless, ever since the incident, Smith’s posts were all deleted.
