The dedicated New Jersey nurse who was left brain dead after getting attacked by a deranged homeless man has now passed away.
58-year-old Maria Ambrocio was an oncology nurse from New Jersey who suffered severe injuries after Jermaine Foster, a man suspected of two robberies, slammed into her and sent her flying into a sidewalk at Times Square on Friday.
According to the reports, the man crashed into the dedicated nurse, who was visiting the Philippines Consulate in Midtown Manhattan at the time of the incident, just moments after he had robbed another woman.
Following the incident, Ambrocio was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where she was fighting for her life after being declared brain dead.
Now, the hardworking nurse, who was just planning on seeing her family for the first time since the start of the pandemic, has passed away.
“They just pulled the plug on her. She’s gone,” the woman’s brother, Carlito Spa Maria, revealed.
Recalling the tragic day Ambrocio was injured and hospitalized, 70-year-old Emilia Cruz, a fellow nurse who was walking alongside her friend on Friday, said:
“There were lots of people and we were trying to maneuver. I heard a big thump like something hit the concrete and, you know, it was loud so I said ‘Wow, oh My God. What’s that?’ and I looked down and I saw her blouse, I didn’t see the face and I said, ‘Oh my God, Ning,’ I call her Ning.
“I said ‘Ning, what happened? Wake up,’ and she was out. She was already unconscious. She is not answering me. I keep picking her up. She was frothing from her mouth. And I said, ‘Call 911.’”
As Cruz revealed, her friend was a dedicated nurse who loved helping people, listening to music, and traveling. She was reportedly married and had step-children.
Our thoughts are with Maria’s family and friends during these challenging times.
