A YouTuber has claimed he sustained multiple gunshot wounds after he pranked a man at a mall.
Tanner Cook, who has more than 40,000 subscribers on YouTube, shares videos of himself pranking strangers.
Some of his videos show him pretending to vomit on Uber drivers, taking customers’ groceries, accusing others of stealing, and more.
Some of Cook’s victims became so furious they called the police.
But on Sunday, his jokes almost took his life after a man allegedly shot him because he and his friends pranked him outside a local mall.
Police allege that the man, 31-year-old Alan Colie, shot the YouTuber in the liver and stomach.
Fortunately, Cook survived the shooting and underwent surgery after emergency services rushed him to a hospital in critical condition.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Cook told WUSA: “I was playing a prank and a simple practical joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well. He didn’t say anything to me.”
The outlet reported that the YouTuber’s friend was recording the prank.
The family also said that the video is included in the evidence for investigators.
Cook’s father, Jeramy Cook, said of the incident: “They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun. There was a phone that was around him and they were interviewing or talking to him, and he didn’t like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.”
Jeramy continued: “We need restoration, we need healing, and we need to come together. I pray for this young man and pray that he finds God in this. I believe that God saved our son’s life, and he could have easily died but that’s not the outcome. God has plans for my son.”
