The world’s oldest person passed away at the age of 119 in Japan.
According to local media reports, Kane Tanaka was born in January 1903 in Japan’s southern Fukuoka region.
She was said to have been born in the same year as the heroic accomplishment of the Wright brothers who flew their first-ever plane during that time. This is also believed to be the same year that Marie Curie was granted the great honor of being the first female to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Tanaka was believed to be in great health until recently. She used to live at a nursing home where she is believed to have enjoyed the healthy competition of board games and great guilty pleasures like chocolates, soda, snacks, and solving math problems as well.
One century ago, she is believed to have married her husband named Hideo Tanaka in the year 1922. And that is also when she gave birth to her four children and even adopted the fifth one.
Tanaka shocked the world with her witty spirit and fun-loving nature. Her love for sports could be seen as she was a famous Olympic torchbearer for years and took part in the role while seated in her wheelchair.
Guinness World Records has offered their condolences on the news, adding how deeply saddened they were to hear the demise of Tanaka. They also paid tribute to her wonderful personality and how much she enjoyed the little things in life.
And just like that, similar tributes began pouring in on social media from all over the globe.
Tanaka’s family is believed to have shared a number of Tweets this past month where they spoke about how she was quite sick, going in and out of the hospital.
