A woman’s torso was found inside a shopping cart in Brooklyn on Thursday as crime surges in New York City.
The body was discovered inside a garbage bag in a shopping cart without limbs or a head at around 1:45 am.
According to reports, the man saw the bag and decided to check the items inside. But what he discovered left him horrified.
Police said that the victim did not appear to have any stab or gunshot wounds. The remains also did not seem to be decomposed.
Authorities determined the torso was that of an adult woman and said a medical examiner will determine the cause of death and identify the victim through DNA.
Locals are now concerned about their safety in Big Apple, with local student Cynthia Jimenez telling ABC 7: “They say New York is a dream, an American dream, but I don’t feel safe.”
Construction shop owner Sung Hong, 64, told The New York Times: “It’s getting worse and worse. I don’t know what’s going on. It’s like people have become crazy.”
Local resident Violet Rodriguez also told ABC 7: “Oh my God, Jesus Christ, cause nowadays anyone is not safe here anymore, I don’t know what to do because I work around the corner.”
Only days before the incident, a homeless Army veteran was arrested on suspicion of rac*st attacks on Asian women.
28-year-old Steven Zajonc was arrested after he hid inside a bathroom at the New York Public Library and caused a standoff with the police.
His attacks come after a 61-year-old grandmother, GuiYing Ma, tragically died after being hit in the face with a rock during a NYC street attack.
