A woman has been arrested after hiring three men to kill a homeless lady and steal her unborn baby.
23-year-old Yadira Yepes from Colombia is facing child trafficking and aggravated murder charges after paying $4,000 to three men to cut an unborn baby boy out of the womb of a 37-year-old homeless woman.
According to the reports, the authorities became suspicious of Yepes after she appeared at Mario Gaitán Yaguas Hospital claiming she had suddenly given birth.
Following a complete medical examination, the doctors ruled that the 23-year-old was lying and that there were no signs of her giving birth recently.
After Soacha Metropolitan Police arrived at the hospital, Yepes allegedly provided conflicting versions of the story about how she got the baby.
“We called her family and they informed us that she was pregnant but that she suddenly had appeared with a newborn saying that the birth had happened out of the blue. They said that is why they had taken her to the hospital because her health could be in danger,” Colonel Livio Castillo said.
Under questioning, Yepes eventually admitted to hiring three men to kill Sandra Álvarez, a 37-week-pregnant woman with drug addiction, and perform a C-section to steal her baby.
Álvarez’s body was eventually found alongside her umbilical cord and placenta by locals in the rural town of Chachua.
“She then ended up confessing that she had been pregnant but that after three months she had suffered a miscarriage and that is why she had begun to devise a plan to get another baby,” Castillo added.
According to the Soacha mayor, Yepes has since “already accepted the charges and the baby is in perfect health.”
