A woman from Florida managed to stop a kidnapping attempt after she saw a man and two young girls on bicycles.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office official, 37-year-old David Daniels started following two young girls while they were leaving Cherry’s Bar and Grill in FishHawk Ranch’s park square at 6 pm on June 12.
The kidnapper allegedly told the girls under the age of 12 that he would ‘supervise’ them as they made their way home.
Jessica Lang, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said that Daniels did not know the girls and the children also didn’t know him.
“Thankfully, thee children stuck together and rode their bikes to a nearby church and asked an adult for help,” Lang said of the woman who was standing outside the church when the attempted kidnapping happened.
According to Fox News, the mother said she felt something was wrong when she saw the man following two young girls.
“One of the little girls was mouthing to me, ‘Please help me, this is not my dad,’” the woman reportedly said.
The woman said that the kidnapper put one of the children in a chokehold and said something in her ear.
Daniels then turned his attention to the woman and told her that ‘they’ had just moved into the area.
The woman said she invited them into the church until she managed to call the police.
“I engaged in conversation with him,” she said. “I said, ‘Oh that’s nice. Where did you move here from?’ He said, ‘Oh, I am not really sure.’”
By the time police arrived, Daniels was found walking back to the downtown area. He is now being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on a $104,000 bond.
The mother who saved the children said she doesn’t want any recognition. “I don’t want to be a hero. I just did what I hope anybody would do for my kids,” she expressed.
