A young, newlywed woman was hacked to death by a machete-wielding madman in a horror New Year’s Day attack.
22-year-old Keris Riebel from Ohio was working her shift at the Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky when she was approached by a man carrying a machete at 4.25 pm on New Year’s Day.
According to the reports, the man, who was later identified as 27-year-old Bethel Bekele, struck his victim “numerous times with the machete” before fleeing the crime scene.
Some one hour after the grisly attack, Bekele was arrested for murder a mile away from the dollar store.
As Riebel’s heartbroken family have since revealed, the young lady was planning on starting a family of her own with her husband, Jordan Riebel, following their marriage just two months ago.
“Jordan and Keris were newlyweds who had a bright future ahead of them. Anyone who met the two could see how much love and adoration they had for each other,” Amber Geiser, Jordan’s aunt, wrote in a heart-wrenching GoFundMe post.
“As a young couple life insurance was not on their minds, and Jordan is left with the expense of the funeral and burial along with lost wages for taking time off work to grieve. Keris was a beautiful soul and anyone who met her would say how sweet and kind she was.
“Keris just graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and was looking forward to starting her career. Jordan and Keris were also looking forward to having children and most recently a puppy and starting their new lives together. It was ripped apart from the both of them in a matter of seconds.”
As of this writing, Bekele has been charged with murder and he has yet to appear in court. It is unclear whether the victim and her attacker knew each other prior to the attack.
While Wyandot County Major Crimes Unit investigates the murder, our thoughts remain with Keris’s husband and family.
