A young woman was fatally injured by a boat propeller while having the time of her life.
26-year-old Natalia Andrea Larranaga Fajardo from California was vacationing in San Andres, Colombia, when her slippers fell into the water.
Determined to retrieve the flip-flops, the young lady jumped into the Caribbean Sea while the boat she was on was still in operation.
Unfortunately, Fajardo got caught in the propeller and suffered severe injuries to her legs and lower back in the process.
After the sea off the White Wata Beach shore turned red with blood, the 26-year-old was rushed to the nearest hospital on a jet ski.
Despite undergoing several blood transfusions and emergency surgery to repair her severed arteries, Natalia passed away following two cardiac arrests.
While the medics were able to bring her back after the first cardiac arrest, she could not be resuscitated after she suffered another one while already recovering in the ICU.
Following the fatal tragedy, it was confirmed that the boat Fajardo was traveling on was carrying 24 tourists along with two group leaders.
“The vessel has been immobilized and its two crew members have been placed at the disposal of the relevant authorities by the Coast Guard of the Colombian Navy as part of the due process of investigation,” Dimar, the Colombian maritime authority, confirmed.
Meanwhile, officials in the region also warned tourists never to approach or swim in the presence of moving boats to avoid getting struck by propellers
