A lonely woman lay dead in her flat for nearly three years before her decomposed body was finally discovered.

Sheila Seleoane, who is originally from South Africa, was found dead inside her London apartment some two-and-a-half years after she passed away.

As of this writing, an investigation into the grisly case remains ongoing and the cause and time of the woman’s death are yet to be confirmed.

It is believed that Sheila had no family in the UK, whereas all of her relatives stayed in South Africa when she left her country. Lonely as she was, she apparently also didn’t have any immediate friends or colleagues who would check on her or be bothered by her sudden ‘disappearance.’

It has since the tragic finding also been revealed that just two people attended the medical secretary’s funeral service in the UK.

The two included the woman’s estranged brother, a convicted murderer, and a representative of Peabody, an affordable-housing charity from which she was renting an apartment.

“From our visits and conversations, we know many of you have questions, and we are sharing what we can in this letter,” Peabody’s Head of Neighborhoods Pablo Cazar said.

“The police have confirmed that Ms Seleoane died of natural causes, and they are not treating her death as suspicious.

“Although there have been reports from residents that people may have entered Ms Seleoane’s flat in the past two years, the police have decided not to open a criminal investigation on this basis.”

Adding to the mystery surrounding the case was a neighbor living below the woman’s apartment who claimed he had heard footsteps in Sheila’s apartment just months before her body was discovered and long after she died.

Following the poorly-attended funeral service in England, Peabody arranged for the woman’s remains to be taken to her family in South Africa.

The relatives reportedly held a proper funeral that was attended by one hundred mourners last month.

Meanwhile, the housing trust came under fire for failing to notice that the woman was dead in the apartment for nearly three years.

“Everyone living on Sheila’s floor has asked to be rehoused in another block, but nothing at all has been done,” an angry resident said.

“Peabody says they plan to refurbish the flat and re-let it. But to my mind it is a grave. Nobody should have to live there. It ought to be left permanently empty.

“The trust is supposed to care about its residents — that’s why it’s there — but it obviously couldn’t care less about us. It just wants it all to be forgotten.”
