A 23-year-old woman tragically died after falling 70ft through a hole in a water park’s zip line platform in Brazil.
Yasmili Arauji had gone to Piracema Park Club with her boyfriend and friends on July 2.
The young nurse was spotted climbing to the top of a zip line platform without safety harness or any other protection.
But upon reaching the top, Arauji fell 70ft to her death because of the hole in the platform.
The 23-year-old reportedly died of a heart attack on the way to hospital.
“Piracema Park Club provided all support and attention to the young woman’s family and, after the accident, closed the activities of the attraction, which will only return to operation after investigation by the relevant authorities regarding the causes of the accident,” the water park said in a statement.
According to Lieutenant Eurico Fernando of the Fire Department, the water park’s zipline platform had not been checked or signed off by an engineer.
He also said that the structure had just been built that morning.
“It was assembled at the last minute, it was ready on the morning of the 2nd. They did it very quickly, possibly this rush in the assembly of this structure is a preponderant factor in trying to explain what happened,” he added.
Photos show the huge hole at the top of the platform through which Arauji have fallen.
One person commented: “Can’t believe anyone would have to climb up that structure without a safety harness, let alone the hole in the platform!”
Another wrote: “Omg. Why is that hole there? The horror for her. So sorry to her family.”
A third added: “That structure looks like it’s about to collapse.”
