A woman has passed away shortly after she was dumped partially naked outside a hospital by two other women.
53-year-old Maxine Messam from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was found naked outside the Jacobi Medical Center after two unidentified women dumped her at the hospital and told the staff that they decided to help her after finding her asking for help at Woodlawn Cemetery.
After bringing the woman to the health center in her BMW, the two women walked away.
Shortly after, Maxine was pronounced dead and needle marks were discovered on her body. According to the reports, the foreign substances injected into the woman’s buttocks suggest that she was likely subjected to a botched cosmetic procedure prior to her passing.
“We don’t know what happened. She was at work and she left work. So we don’t know what happened from there,” Messam’s shocked husband, Carlos Simpson, said in an interview with New York Daily News.
Following the woman’s suspicious death, the authorities have launched an investigation into the mysterious case. An autopsy report has also been requested.
“Everybody is really emotionally damaged at this point in time. I would like to say something but we don’t have all the details,” Maxine’s son added.
With cosmetic surgeries on the rise, doctors have warned of dangerous and potentially lethal complications that may arise from procedures carried out by non-medical professionals.
As Dr. Henry Spinelli of Weill Cornell and New York-Presbyterian Hospital said, “there’s a risk of embolization entering large vessels and developing clots that spread to the lungs, etc., endangering one’s life.”
“It’s not something I take lightly, and I would try to dissuade as much as possible,” he told CBS New York as he urged people to take care when it comes to such procedures.
