The heartbroken family of the young woman killed in the Buffalo blizzard has spoken out and shared their frustration over the rescue efforts.
22-year-old Anndel Taylor succumbed to the unforgiving weather conditions after getting trapped in her car as a massive snowstorm took over Upstate New York days before Christmas.
According to the reports, the young woman was trapped in her car for 18 hours from Friday, December 23, until Christmas Eve when a passerby spotted her unresponsive in her car.
Taylor’s grieving mother, Wanda Brown Steele, has since spoken to DailyMail.com and revealed that it was thanks to the passerby and not the rescue services that she learned of her daughter’s passing.
She further insisted that the unnamed Good Samaritan took her daughter to a coroner after first responders allegedly failed to show up for nearly a day.
“My children and I are angry. She was in the car too long. From Friday to Christmas,” Steele expressed as she revealed her daughter remained in contact with her family in her final hours.
In their conversations, the “scared” young lady told her family about how she got trapped in her car while trying to get back to her home after work
It was after Taylor became unresponsive that she was found by a concerned woman who called the police only to be told that the authorities were already aware of her situation.
The woman then stayed with Taylor and waited for the police to arrive while reaching out to the girl’s family to break the sad news of her passing.
“She told me: ‘I’m gonna stay out there with your baby. I won’t leave her,’” Steele added.
“The coroner never came. A random woman had to pick her up. She and the police put her body in her car because the coroner never came.”
Speaking out after Taylor’s passing was also her sister, Shawnequa Brown, who told WSOC-TV that her family didn’t realize just how serious the weather conditions were at the time.
“I don’t know if any of us really knew how serious it was, we didn’t see the news, we didn’t really know what was going on in Buffalo,” she said.
Her sister, Tomeshia Brown, added: “I feel like everybody that tried to get to her got stuck. Fire department, police, everybody got stuck. Why didn’t they have chains on their tires? This is a state that is known for snow.”
Our thoughts are with Anndel’s family and friends during this challenging time.
