A 68-year-old woman had her leg and arm ripped off after a shark attacked her at Sahl Hasheesh bay in Egypt on Friday.
The Austrian pensioner desperately tried to swim back to the shore after the predator bit her leg and arm off.
Horrified beachgoers distracted the shark but no one tried to jump in to help the woman.
After she managed to swim back to shore, she was given CPR by doctors but she died of ‘painful shock’ only minutes later.
Authorities closed the beach as well as the surrounding resorts for a few days.
The pensioner was reportedly married to an Egyptian man and they lived in the country.
Horrific video shows shocked witnesses on a jetty watching the 68-year-old woman as the water around her turned red.
A group of tourists were heard saying: “Where are the rescuers? F***, she’s covered in blood. Holy s***.
“Where’s the rescue team? For f***’s sake. Lifeguards? Where are the lifeguards? She’s going to die!”
Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that the shark bit off the woman’s leg and arm. She was rushed to the hospital but died in the ambulance after her heart stopped.
“The woman died in the ambulance from painful shock,” the report said.
In October 2020, a 12-year-old boy on a holiday on holiday in Egypt and his tour guide lost limbs after an oceanic whitetip shark attacked them.
The two required amputations after the shark attack at resort Ras Muhammad in the Red Sea.
Shark attacks in the country are rare but the Red Sea has over 44 species of fish, some of which can be dangerous.
Most common are grey reef sharks, which have 13 to 14 sharp teeth.
