Grieving Widow Of Police Officer Who Died After Helping Distressed Man Has Spoken Out


The grieving wife of a police officer who died after helping a man in distress has spoken out and branded her husband as an amazing and wonderful person.

46-year-old Sergeant Graham Saville was dubbed a hero cop after getting struck by a train while helping a man in distress on the train tracks near Newark-on-Trent, England.

According to the preliminary investigation, the cop was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre after suffering serious injuries while tending to the 29-year-old man who found himself in trouble.

Unfortunately, Saville succumbed to his injuries while surrounded by his loved ones including his wife Joanne who has now broken her silence.

“Graham was a wonderful man. He was laid back, funny, silly and adventurous – he lived life to the full. He loved his job and joined the police to do something worthwhile and to make a difference,” she said.

“Ultimately his desire to help others has led to him making the ultimate sacrifice. We are devastated. The outpouring of love from all those who knew him is testament to the amazing person he was. We are so lucky to have loved him.”

Meanwhile, a fundraiser for the man’s family reached over $150,000 in donations.

“This is an appeal to the community in order to assist the immediate family of the fallen police officer following a terrible ordeal whereby an officer has given his life in the line of duty whilst saving the life of another individual,” former cop Dan Fletcher wrote as he launched the page.

“This is the epitome of policing bravery. This fund will hopefully assist in many areas of their lives as they now come to terms with the tragic outcome. Hopefully one day in time it may help them move forward and bring them some comfort.”

Paying tribute to the late officer were also his colleagues who said that Saville was “hugely respected and popular” and that his “sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

“Today is a day of mourning for the entire police family. Graham was a hugely respected and popular colleague and his death in the line of duty has come as an enormous shock to us all,” Chief Constable Kate Meynell expressed.
