‘Why Did I Have A Child?!’ 44-Year-Old Mother Said Before Suffocating Her 8-Year-Old Son In A House Fire


A mother took to social media and wrote “Why did I have a child?” only days before suffocating her son in a house fire.

44-year-old Karin Ziokowskii from Connecticut was found guilty of killing her 8-year-old son, Elijah Ziokowski after she was found guilty of causing arson in the second degree, court documents revealed.

Prosecutors revealed how the mother took fluid from a tiki torch to burn the house while her son was still inside.

Only two days before the murder, she took to Twitter and wrote: “Why did I have a child?”

First responders rushed to the scene and found the young boy unresponsive. Paramedics were unable to bring him back to life as he had already suffered severe smoke inhalation.

The mother was also taken to Hartford Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Elijah’s tragic death was ruled as a homicide.

According to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office, the case of death was acute intoxication and asphyxiation.

Officers initially thought that the 8-year-old died from smoke inhalation until it was found out that the cause of death was because of the mother’s actions.

Autopsy results revealed that Elijah had a fatal amount of antihistamine diphenhydramine in his system.

A medical examiner also said that the boy died even before the mother set the house on fire.

The Meriden Police Department was checking the mother’s posts on social media to find some clues and officers were shocked by their discoveries.

Investigators found that Ziolkowski tweeted the terms ‘devil’s playground’ and ‘fire extinguisher’ and ‘#takethatasyouwill’ before the fire.

A day later, she tweeted the phrase ‘#takethatasyouwill’ and ‘empty promises.’

Detectives were perturbed with her Twitter post, which asked: “Why did I have a child?”

Heartfelt tributes were paid to the third-grader, who was popular with his teachers and classmates.

Enza Adamcewicz, the principal of Israel Putnam School, told WVIT: “Bubbly kid. You know, loves Star Wars, Legos. … You know, a normal 8-year-old boy.

“He was very social. … Everybody knew him, knew of him. Big personality and he will be greatly missed.”
