Maite Yuleana Rodriguez and Amerie Jo Garza, both 10, will be laid to rest in the first of 21 funerals for the victims of the Uvalde school massacre.
Amerie was killed by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos after calling 911 for help.
According to reports, 19 police officers stood outside the classroom at Robb Elementary School for an hour while the gunman was inside with the students and teachers under the order of the school police department chief.
Amerie’s funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. Mourners gathered at a funeral home for the young girl’s visitation.
Her grieving family is now demanding answers over the police response and whether their actions cost the lives of their children.
Speaking to CNN, Alfred Garza said: “It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it just took too long to get in there and, you know, had they gotten there sooner, and someone would have taken immediate action, we might have more of those children here today, including my daughter.”
Amerie’s stepfather, Angel, broke down in tears after being told that his stepdaughter was among the dead.
Jennifer Gaitan, whose daughter was also in the school, said: “We were asking and begging (authorities) to do something. I feel like they were not concerned about the real trauma that was happening inside.

Police admitted that they did not try and breach the classroom door as soon as possible after Ramos managed to lock himself in.
One police officer said it was because they thought all the people inside were already dead while another cop said they feared they would be killed by the gunman.
