Tearful mourners have gathered to pay tribute to the young victims who died in yesterday’s frozen lake drowning tragedy near Babbs Mill Park in Solihull.
10-year-old Jack Johnson was among the boys who lost their lives in the heartbreaking incident that arose amid freezing conditions.
The young boys were out playing when the disaster struck, causing a frozen lake to crack and pulling them down below with the shards of ice.
All the victims were believed to have suffered cardiac arrests that led to irreversible injuries and soon their death ensued.
The police, firefighters, and paramedics rushed to the scene to rescue and retrieve the victims but it was all in vain. But now, tributes are going out in dozens that had been left for the three individuals who passed away while one remains in critical condition and is currently battling for his life.
Bouquets of flowers and teddy bears, and cards took center stage at the exact point where the boys lost their lives in the tragedy.
The kids were aged between 8 to 12 and they just plunged right through the frozen ice on Sunday.
One of the tributes took little Thomas by name and it was by one of his closest pals. “To my friend Thomas. Thank you for being there for me when I was sad. Thanks for lending me your jacket when I was cold!”- he continued.
Little Jack Johnson was also among the boys who lost their lives with his aunt saying on Facebook that he ran and tried to save three other kids. They included a six-year-old who had been on the ice when the ice started to crumble.
While all four of the boys were pulled out from the lake, three died and one survived. Other tributes included those left behind by emergency crews who responded first to the scene.
