One of Ukraine’s top pilots was killed while fighting for his country just days after receiving a prestigious award.
Major Anton Lystopad was a 204th Sevastopol Tactical Aviation Brigade pilot who dedicated his life to serving his country.
It was now confirmed that the young man was killed while fighting Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.
Following his death, Lystopad was laid to rest in the village of Chukalivka along with Colonel Yury Pohorily.
Attending the service were more than one hundred relatives and friends as well as a number of Ukrainian servicemen.
Just days before his death, Lystopad received the Order of Courage award from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Back in 2019, he was named the country’s pilot of the year.
Last year, Lystopad further engraved his name in the history of Ukraine’s air force by leading the parade to mark the country’s 30th anniversary of independence.
“Millions of Ukrainians watched with admiration and pride as an aviation column of troops paraded over Khreshchatyk on the day of the 30th anniversary of Independence. The leader of this column was our Anton,” the Physics and Technical Lyceum of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council, the school the soldier attended, expressed in a tribute to the young pilot.
“Anton’s road at the helm of the destroyer was difficult, but it was considered. However, the young man stubbornly walked to his dream – become a pilot, fly high in the sky like a bird, and contemplate the beauty of the Earth with an eagle’s eye view.”
Our thoughts are with Lystopad’s family, comrades, and friends.
