Ukraine has reportedly bombed a Russian oil depot in retaliation to Putin’s relentless invasion.
Fighting back against the invaders, Ukraine reportedly destroyed the Transneft-Druzhba Oil Depot in a missile strike after the facility was used for supplying Russian troops fighting in Donbas.
The targeted oil depot is located in Bryansk, a Russian city located some 70 miles from the Russia-Ukraine border.
According to Russian state media, a fire broke out at the depot at around 2 am local time, whereas another fire overwhelmed a nearby military facility just minutes later.
In one shocking CCTV footage, a missile was heard flying towards the depot before triggering a large explosion that resulted in a fireball and a screen of smoke.
The alleged missile strike appears to mark the first time Ukraine retaliated against Russia’s invasion by striking Russian targets on their own soil.
Military experts have since suggested Ukraine likely struck the oil depot to disrupt Russia’s supply chain to its army fighting in eastern Ukraine.
Following the two blasts, Russian authorities insisted there were no casualties. They also denied having to carry out any evacuations in the area saying the fire didn’t reach residential areas.
Meanwhile, hundreds of firefighters and some fifty vehicles were spotted putting out the blaze in the early Monday hours.
Moscow has since claimed that an investigation into the fires has been launched. While Kremlin is unlikely to point a finger at Ukraine in fears that the attack would showcase Ukraine’s ability to fight back and target Russia on its own territory, the alleged missile strike could also be used by Putin as an excuse to cause further devastation in Ukraine.
