The 9-year-old Ukrainian girl who lost her left arm after being shot by Russian soldiers has spoken out to thank the people for their support.
Sasha is a brave little girl from Ukraine who was shot at by the Russian invaders after trying to escape her home in Hostomel, Kyiv, together with her family.
During the evacuation, Sasha was shot in the arm while in the car together with her mother, sister, and stepfather. While the stepfather was killed in the Russian attack, the rest of the family managed to get out of the vehicle and hide in a nearby cellar.
After drifting in and out of consciousness for two long days, the young girl was finally rushed to the hospital by brave volunteers waving a white flag.
“I don’t know why the Russians shot me. I hope it was an accident and that they didn’t mean to hurt me,” Sasha said before undergoing a life-saving surgery that saw her lose her left arm.
“I was shot in the arm. I ran after my sister. My mum she fell over. I thought it was the end. But she was not dead she was just sheltering from the gunfire. She was hiding.
“Then I lost consciousness. Someone carried me to a cellar. I was given some treatment there. And then some people carried me on a towel to the hospital.”
Performing the surgery on the little girl, Dr. Vladislav Gorbovec of the Central Irpin Hospital explained that Sasha would die from gangrene if her arm wasn’t amputated right away.
Following the successful procedure, Sasha spoke out and shared a message for all of the people around the world who supported her through her ordeal.
“Sasha is grateful to everyone and everyone for your support, she reads messages with words of support and smiles, says thank you to everyone,” Sasha’s sister, Ivanka, said.
Our thoughts are with Sasha and all the people of Ukraine during these challenging times.
