A TV host has been facing a backlash after his explosive rant during which he appeared to celebrate the Queen’s death with champagne.
Santiago Cúneo is a controversial Argentinian TV host who faces calls for being fired after celebrating the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death with clapping and drinking.
In a viral video, the television personality popped open a bottle of champagne after learning of the Queen’s passing and proclaiming: “The old b***h has died.”
Cúneo went on to pour himself a glass of the drink while clapping as he called for a “big round of applause for the devil who took her.”
The TV host, who was previously fired from another show over his antisemitic comments, continued by saying it was “good news for everyone” as the following message appeared on the screen: “The old bag of s*** has died.”
While it was not immediately clear why the host holds a grudge against the Queen, it could be that the hate stems from the year 1982 conflict when the UK, backed by the US, seized the Falkland Islands from Argentina.
Though some Argentinians appeared to be amused by Cúneo’s comments, most people seemed to have issues with his “sick” and “evil” attacks on the deceased monarch.
“I am Argentinian and this guy doesn’t represent me. We are sorry for their loss,” one person wrote.
“You don’t have to like her but at least show some respect,” another said.
Meanwhile, the Argentinian government posted a tribute to the Queen saying the country stands with “the British people and her family in this moment of grief.”
