Indian actress Tunisha Sharma has died on the set of a TV show after telling co-stars that she was heading to the restroom.
The 20-year-old had starred in Ali Baba: Dastaan E-Kabul alongside Sheezan Mohammed Khan, who has been arrested after she was found dead.
According to reports, Sharma’s colleagues kicked the bathroom door when she did not return to the set and found that she had ended her life.
The actress was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Khan, 28, was later arrested, with reports claiming that the two had been dating before Sharma took her own life.
According to CinemaBlend, the actress was ‘devastated’ over their split.
Her co-star was arrested for ‘abetment of suicide,’ which can carry a jail term of up to ten years, a huge fine, or both under the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Khan was also ordered by Vasai Court to spend four days in police custody.
Speaking to media outlet AIN, his lawyer said that the claims were ‘baseless,’ alleging police have his phone and haven’t found evidence to support ‘abetment,’ which means including ‘instigating, engaging in a conspiracy or assisting in committing the offense.’
Local reports said that the police have spoken to 14 people including Khan and Sharma’s co-stars, who claimed that their relationship was ‘known on set.’
Only hours before she took her own life, she took to Instagram and shared a photo of herself reading a script.
“Those who are driven by their Passion Doesn’t stop,” she wrote.
Sharma gained popularity as a child actress, starring in the hit show Maharana Pratap before she played a younger version of Katrina Kaif, one of Bollywood’s most popular and highest-paid actresses, in many films.
Her association with Kaif reportedly helped her land many big roles.
