Hollywood actor Treat Williams was killed in a horror crash on Sunday afternoon.
The 71-year-old Golden Globe nominee was reportedly driving his motorbike near his home in Vermont when he was “cut off” by a car while making a turn, causing him to crash and suffer severe injuries.
Unfortunately, the Deep Rising star succumbed to his injuries and passed away, his family and his agent, Barry McPherson, confirmed.
“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented,” McPherson said in a statement to People.
Throughout his long acting career, Williams added over 130 acting credits to his name and went on to appear in hit movies such as Hair, Once Upon a Time in America, Deep Rising, Prince of the City, Mulholland Falls, The Eagle Has Landed, The Substitute, The Devil’s Own, and many more.
He also secured roles in a variety of TV shows including Chesapeake Shores, Chicago Fire, Odyssey, Against the Wall, and Everwood.
“He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career,” McPherson added.
Paying the father-of-two a tribute was also his family, including wife Pam Van Sant, who issued a lengthy statement in which they said Williams was deeply loved and respected by those closest to him.
“It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident,” they wrote.
“As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time. Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it.”
The statement continued: “It is all so shocking right now, but please know that Treat was dearly and deeply loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him.
“We are beyond devastated and ask that you respect our privacy as we deal with our grief. To all his fans, please know that Treat appreciated all of you and please continue to keep him in your hearts and prayers.”
Our thoughts remain with Treat’s family and friends during this challenging time.
