A transgender woman has sued a yoga studio for millions after being forced to use the men’s locker room.
Ali Miles from New York City got into a heated row with Hot Yoga Chelsea and is now suing the studio for five million dollars after allegedly being told to use the men’s locker room despite being in the process of transitioning into a woman.
As Miles argues, she is undergoing hormone therapy and wears women’s clothing on top of identifying as a woman.
“Female patrons … complained and yelled at Miles about Miles’ presence and use of the single-sex locker room and bathroom labeled women, and they demanded Miles leave and cease using the facilities,” the lawsuit, which represents the third gender-identity discrimination case in the Big Apple in the last year, reads.
According to one witness, however, the problem was in Miles’ behavior rather than the fact that she is trans.
“We have other transgender people, we have several trans women and several trans men, and there’s never been a problem. … it’s this individual,” a fellow female patron said in an interview with the New York Post.
“This person who claims to be a transitioning woman came into the female locker room, number one, in male shorts that were down to his knees. He also de-robed, and he is a full male. There’s 150% man. There were things hanging out.”
The witness went on to allege that Miles was crouching in front of the shower stalls making another woman, who was showering, “very uncomfortable.”
“This person started immediately reciting the law, and why would you do that? Because this person could see that there were other women, amongst myself, that were notably upset,” she added.
“This person, I don’t know if they come to these places to try to start a problem or whatever.”
Miles was previously involved in at least two other similar cases in the Bronx. In one instance, she sued Planet Fitness after allegedly being escorted out of the women’s locked room.
In another, Miles insisted that she was attacked by a security guard at a local homeless shelter.
