A Chicago man was reportedly shot dead on the streets as he was walking to purchase a newspaper from a local store in broad daylight.
The man was identified as a citizen that was a true representation of the American dream, adding how he was shot dead while taking a stroll on the streets of a city that he held so precious and near to his heart.
His family confirmed the news, speaking about how the 71-year-old was killed in broad daylight on Tuesday by a man that pulled up his silver-colored car and shot him dead for no reason.
“He just had lunch with me at our Chinatown home. He told me that he was going out to buy some newspaper so he could relax and read it in the evening,” his heartbroken and grieving wife explained to local media outlets on her husband’s demise.
Meanwhile, authorities claim that tragic surveillance video obtained by the station showed how the gunman who opened fire was seated inside his vehicle. He fired one round of shots from there but that was not enough as he came out and then, all of a sudden, he came out again and fired more shots at the elderly individual in a standing position.
The victim fell to the ground when the first round of shots was fired but the criminal still continued to fire while the victim lay down on the ground, breathing his last breath.
CBS Chicago revealed how the suspect is now under police custody and has been charged with first-degree murder. His identity was also revealed as 23-year-old Alphonso Joyner.
Police claim that the accused was previously arrested at least four times, adding how he also had two gun charges attached with his name, and one he pleaded guilty to.
At the moment, no motive of the shooter behind the deadly attack was revealed as investigations into the harrowing case continue.
