The remains of the missing toddler Quinton Simon are believed to have been disposed of at a landfill site after being thrown in a dumpster, police investigating his disappearance said.
Police officers in Chatham County, Georgia have started searching for the 20-month-old boy’s remains after he vanished on October 5.
The FBI confirmed that they believe the child is dead, and his mother Leilani Simon, 22, is now the prime suspect.
Chatham Police Chief Jeff Hadley announced that the team is presuming the boy was ‘thrown in a dumpster’ and ‘disposed of at a local landfill.’
“We believe he was placed in a specific dumpster at a specific location. We want justice for Quinton just like everybody else,” he said.
“And we want to find his remains, so we can give him a proper resting place. I have every belief that we will find his remains here at the landfill.”
Investigators are now tirelessly searching the landfill site at Little Neck Road.
The FBI’s supervisory agent for the Savannah satellite office, Will Clarke, said that they are not just randomly checking the landfill.
“We have specific evidence that leads us to this large property. This will not be quick, this will not be easy, and the outcome is uncertain.”
Leilani is the suspect in the disappearance and presumed death of her son. Child Protective Services removed two other children from her custody on October 12.
FBI and local police have been seen scouring dumpsters, ponds and drains since Quinton was first reported missing by his mother. She claimed she woke up that morning and her son was nowhere to be found.
Her partner, Danny Youngkin, told police that he had last seen Quinton at 6 am.
One week later, Leilani has been named as the prime suspect.
