An 18-month-old girl sadly lost her toe in a horrific kidnapping attempt after a 24-year-old man grabbed her from her mother and held her upside down.
According to reports, Martin Enow snatched the toddler on Mayor Street in Bolton as he was ‘experiencing a psychotic episode at the time.’
The Crown Prosecution Service said that the kidnapper grabbed the child by the neck and ran ‘while holding her upside down.’
The shocked mother struggled to get her child back until a passerby intervened and stopped Enow. Another witness also stopped her vehicle and jumped out to help, leaving her child in the passenger seat.
Enow then hopped into the driver seat of the woman’s car but did not have the keys so he decided to rn away.
He reportedly asked a taxi driver to take him to a football stadium but the driver refused and locked him in the vehicle until the police arrived.
Because of the horrifying incident, the toddler lost her toe and had to undergo surgery for her foot.
The child also suffered a broken arm. Enow reportedly pleaded guilty to kidnap and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Garry Crawford, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said: “This was a terrifying incident which encapsulates every parent’s worst nightmare.
“It is thanks to the quick thinking of the child’s mother, the good Samaritans and the taxi driver, that Martin Enow was stopped before any further harm could occur to either the child or himself.”
“We understand that Martin Enow was suffering with a mental health condition when he committed this offence,” the prosecutor continued.
“I hope that following the conclusion of the case the child’s family will have some sense of closure and that they can now begin to put what happened behind them.”
