Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley face up to 30 years in prison after they have been found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion.
Todd was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, bank fraud, and tax fraud.
The ‘Chrisley Knows Best’ star and Julie have been married for 26 years. They share five children, Grayson, 16; Savannah, 24; Chase, 25; Kyle, 30; and Lindsie, 32.
Julie was found guilty of wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
Peter Tarantino, the couple’s former attorney, was also convicted on Tuesday. He was found guilty of willfully filing false tax returns and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
It was in August 2019 when the Chrisleys were first indicted. A new indictment was then filed earlier this year.
A jury found the couple guilty of all charges and they will both be sentenced at a later date.
Todd’s attorney, Bruce Morris, said he was disappointed with the verdict, adding that he expects to appeal.
Prosecutors claimed that the couple submitted fake documents to banks when they were trying to apply for loans.
They also said that Julie gave fake bank statements and a false credit report when trying to rent a house in California, adding that the pair refused to pay rent after they started using the property.
Prosecutors also alleged that the couple used a film production company to hide income to keep the IRS from collecting unpaid taxes Todd Chrisley owed.
US District Judge Eleanor Ross allowed to couple remain free on bond but the pair were placed on location monitoring and home detention. This means that they can only leave their home for certain reasons, including court appearances, medical appointments, and work.
