The neighbor of the Texas school shooter’s grandmother has spoken out and recalled the horrific moments after the woman was shot in the head.
Before storming Robb Elementary School on May 24, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot his grandmother, 66-year-old Celia Gonzales, in the head and stole her Ford F-150.
According to the reports, Ramos shot his grandmother in the head, whereas the bullet entered through her cheek and exited just under her ear, shattering her teeth in the process.
After suffering the gunshot wound, Gonzales ran to her neighbors, 82-year-old Gilberto Gallegos and 76-year-old Maria, who were busy gardening at the time.
“Soon after [we heard] gunshots, Ramos ran out of the house carrying some bags and jumped into his grandmother’s truck,” Gallegos recalled in an interview with DailyMail.com.
“I thought it was strange because he doesn’t know how to drive.”
Just moments later, Gonzales emerged from the house covered in blood.
“She was delirious and in obvious pain. She then said to me: ‘Look at what he did to me!’ She never mentioned his name, but my wife and I knew who she was talking about, her grandson, Salvador,” Gallegos added.
As the elderly couple revealed, everything happened very fast and they rushed their neighbor to the enclosed porch at the back of their house to hide her from view in case the shooter returned.
“She was in shock and blood was everywhere. I did the best I could,” Gallegos said.
While waiting for the first responders, the couple used a towel to help slow down the bleeding. Later, the victim was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital where she remains in the ICU.
Since the shocking incident, the woman’s cousin, Jason Ybarra, revealed that the 66-year-old is doing “fairly well” but may never speak again due to her injuries.
It has since also come to light that Ramos was living with his grandmother after allegedly being kicked out by his mother.
Officials also believe that Ramos shot his grandmother following a dispute over a phone bill.
