The Texas hospital shooter who killed two maternity ward nurses was on parole at the time he committed the sickening killings.
30-year-old Nestor Oswaldo Hernandez was arrested and is facing capital murder charges after shooting dead two nurses at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Texas.
As the police previously revealed, the suspect was on parole for aggravated robbery and was carrying an ankle monitor when he killed the dedicated healthcare workers near the hospital’s delivery rooms.
It has now also come to light that the career criminal, who has a lengthy rap sheet, was allowed to be at the hospital “to be with his significant other during delivery.”
The shocking news claiming the prisoner committed the murders while his girlfriend was giving birth was confirmed by a prison spokesperson in a statement to Dallas Morning News.
As of this writing, the motive for the shocking killings remains unclear. It is also not clear who the suspect’s alleged partner is and whether he is the father of her child.
According to the reports, Hernandez was arrested after he was shot by an on-site Methodist Health System Police Officer.
The 30-year-old first landed in prison following an aggravated robbery in 2011 when he and his accomplice lured their victim into their car before pointing a gun to his head and demanding he hand over his valuables.
In 2015, after serving two years for aggravated robbery, Hernandez was once again arrested for ambushing a woman outside her apartment and duct-taping her before looting her apartment.
Following his arrest, Hernandez was sentenced to eight years in prison. He didn’t serve the full sentence and was paroled early.
Branding the deadly shooting as “an abhorrent failure of our criminal justice system,” Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said:
“We @DallasPD are grateful for the support and care provided to our officers by @mhshospitals. Our thoughts are with staff and victims of today’s events. We will do EVERYTHING to assist in this investigation. This is a tragedy, and an abhorrent failure of our criminal justice system.”
