A 16-year-old boy who was pushed by four thugs into oncoming traffic while he was skateboarding finally woke up from a coma.
Angel Figueroa was on his way home from school in California when a group of teenagers pushed him into the street near Seven Hills Drive and Stetson Avenue.
He finally woke up from a coma and can move the left side of his body after undergoing surgery and suffering brain and head injuries, his aunt Belki Brizuela said on a fundraiser she set up for the teen.
Speaking to KNBC, Brizuela said: “Not quite responding or communicating with us but just moving little movements gives us a sign of hope. There’s hope that he’s going to come out of this.”
She also took to social media and shared a video of Figueroa stretching his leg.
According to reports, four teenagers were arrested: one was 16 years old and three were 15 years old.
The one who pushed Figueroa got six months in juvenile hall while the rest were sentenced to house arrest.
On the day of the incident, Figueroa’s father tried to contact him after he didn’t return home. But a hospital staff answered his phone and told him to go to the emergency room right away.
“I couldn’t recognize him – he was so swollen,” he told KNBC.
“And bruises everywhere, and cuts… I can’t wrap my mind around it. Why? You know, what was the reason to do that you know?
Earlier this year, Brizuela launched a GoFundMe page to help cover his nephew’s medical bills. It was closed after raising over $32,000.
She has launched another fundraiser to cover more medical expenses and also buy a van so Figueroa can travel with his medical equipment.
Almost $42,000 has been raised as of Tuesday.
“Please keep praying it’s been working I have faith and hope he going to be our miracle baby and be fully recovered,” she wrote.
