Teenage girls have sparked outrage after desecrating a baby’s grave and stealing flowers from the cemetery in a viral video.
The incident took place at Leigh Cemetery in Leigh, Greater Manchester, where teenage girls desecrated at least two graves.
In one viral clip, one of the girls is seen picking up a Thomas the Tank Engine toy from a baby’s grave before throwing it into the headstone while laughing hysterically.
In another footage, a girl was seen picking up a flower pot from another grave before throwing the contents on the path.
As the Wigan Council has since confirmed, the headstone at the baby’s resting place suffered “no physical damage” as a result of the vandalism.
“We are aware of a video from Leigh Cemetery which is circulating on social media. Following reports of this video, our teams have visited the cemetery and we can confirm that there is no physical damage to the headstone,” Paul Barton said.
“We do not condone this behavior in any way and we would like to reassure families that we are committed to ensuring all of our cemeteries are safe places to visit and remember loved ones.”
Meanwhile, outraged viewers called for the girls to be found and made to apologize for their actions.
“Hopefully the parents actually do something about it, public apology to the family members and cleaning all the graves up for a start, horrible silly little girls,” someone wrote.
“To lose a child is to lose all your tomorrows… they just don’t get it and that’s no excuse. Heartbreaking for the parents of that little one,” another said.
The third wrote: “Disgusting! They should be ashamed of themselves! Why are they even hanging around the cemetery anyway!”
