A 16-year-old girl was found dead on her bedroom floor holding a deodorant can.
Brooke Ryan from New South Wales, Australia, was found unresponsive by her mother Anne at their family home on February 3.
According to reports, the teen was lying face down clutching a deodorant can. It is believed that she inhaled the aerosol fumes.
The teen passed away from a suspected heart attack after inhaling aerosols in a dangerous activity known as ‘chroming.’
Her grieving mother, Anne Ryan, spoke about her daughter’s death on Mother’s Day to warn other parents about the dangerous trend.
“I wake up, I think of her, I go to sleep and think of her… Every day is a nightmare,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“She was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold, who’s just so sorely missed, and would be absolutely devastated to know the negative impact she’s had on so many people from her death.”
Ms Ryan believes Brooke died from sudden sniffing death syndrome but the coroner’s report has yet to be released.
She said that her daughter struggled with anxiety even though she was trying her best to overcome the problems and challenges she faced.
The teen wanted to be a physiotherapist, a beautician, or a lawyer when she was older.
Organizers from Australian Football League competition paid tribute to the keen athlete.
AFL Broken Hill said Brooke was a talented member of the North Football Club and academy squad for the Greater Western Sydney Giants Football Club.
Warning signs of inhalant abuse include using more deodorant cans than usual, frequent headaches, and white patches on hand towels or tea towels.
