A young mother was found dead next to her lover after the police were called to perform a wellness check at her home.
26-year-old Amanda Hicks was a middle school teacher from Port St. Lucie, Florida, who was found dead alongside her lover at the Peacock Run apartment complex on Saturday.
According to the reports, the Anderson Middle School sixth-grade teacher and her lover died in a case of murder-suicide, whereas the unnamed man whom the teacher was presumably having a relationship with is believed to have killed Hicks before taking his own life.
After the police arrived at the scene, they discovered a 10-month-old baby girl, Hicks’ daughter, who was crying in her crib near her mother’s body.
Neighbors of the young mom and her baby have since revealed that the pair moved into their new home just three weeks ago.
“They seemed very normal, very normal. We didn’t even get time to even get to know them because everything happened so fast,” one neighbor told CBS 12 News.
“My hearts out for the family, though. Hopefully, they find peace in all of this.”
It was since also revealed that the police performed a welfare check at the apartment complex after receiving a worrying call from one of the woman’s relatives.
Tributes to the young mother and teacher have since begun flooding the internet with shocked friends and acquaintances expressing their sorrow over the tragic incident.
“While words will never be enough to convey the shock and sadness this news has brought to our school family, it is more important than ever to come together to support one another through our grief journey,” Darcia Borel, the principal of Anderson Middle School, said in a letter to the staff members.
“Additional information about memorials and opportunities for supporting Amanda’s beautiful little girl will be forthcoming.
“Please remember to hug your loved ones a little tighter and keep Amanda’s family in your thoughts and hearts.”
Hicks’ longtime friend, Raquel Magallon, added: “She just lit up the room. She had such a big, beautiful smile. She was always happy and always energetic. She was just an angel. She definitely brightened my day every time I saw her.”
The mother’s childhood friend, Maria Uphues, said: “Even though the plan was to grow old and reminiscence about all the highs and lows we’ve experienced, I am so grateful to have had you in my life for these past 19 years.
“You were absolutely gorgeous inside and out and this world will never be the same without you… Even though I don’t know what happened that day, I don’t hold any hate in my heart towards him and my heart goes out to his family.”
