A Louisiana teacher faces 41 years in prison after giving cupcakes laced with her husband’s sperm.
Cynthia Perkins, 36, admitted to a slew of disturbing sex crimes, including child pornography, second-degree rape, and mingling of harmful substances, when she took a plea deal in Livingston.
The teacher and her now-ex-husband, Dennis Perkins, were arrested in 2019 on more than 150 sex crime-related charges, including sexually abusing a child together.
She has pleaded guilty to lacing cupcakes with her husband’s sperm and feeding it to her students. She allegedly used his sperm to “season” pastries that were made for children at Westside Junior High School.
Assistant Lousiana Attorney General Barry Milligan said: “These three we thought was representative of what she had done and by agreeing to the facts as we put them out on the record she prepared herself to testify against Dennis Perkins.”
She faces 41 years in prison after testifying against her now ex-husband, Dennis. The husband and the wife were arrested in October 2019 and both were charged with 60 counts of producing pornography involving a child under 13.
They also faced two counts of first-degree rape while Dennis was also charged with two counts of video voyeurism, two counts of obscenity, and obstruction of justice.
While Dennis was a Sheriff Deputy before the arrest, Cynthia stepped down from her teaching position after the arrest, filed for divorce, and claimed Dennis had manipulated her to carry out the crimes. Dennis was fired from the sheriff’s department after the charges were brought.
James Spokes, Cynthia’s attorney, said they feel the plea deal was the best decision. He said: “Cynthia decided this was in her best interest. She feels a lot of remorse over what’s happened.”
“We side with her when she says this was the best decision she could make at this time. This is not the kind of case where people are going home happy, but this was the best possible outcome.”
Attorney general Jeff Landry said: “Today, Cynthia Perkins admitted to her crimes and plead guilty in court. She not only waived any right to appeal, and attempt to avoid conviction, but she also spared the victims from reliving her horrific crimes during this particular trial.”
“Conviction is in the best interest of our victims and justice. We look forward to holding Dennis Perkins accountable for his crimes in the very near future,” he added.
She could have originally faced 72 years in prison but will now face 41 years. Included in the charges, Ms. Perkins was given a one-year sentence for the sperm-riddled cupcakes.
Cynthia’s legal team had been attempting to have her trial moved from Livingston Parish as they argued that the social media hype around the case could not guarantee an impartial trial.
Her ex-husband Dennis Perkins was said to be working in the sheriff’s department and faced 150 charges. He will face trial at a later date in May.
