A female teacher who was sentenced to eight months in jail over a 15-month ‘affair’ with a young student will now face misconduct proceedings.
36-year-old Aimee Jones admitted to touching the schoolgirl, who cannot be named, in the back of her vehicle after she first approached the student at school.
The court heard how she told the victim she was “having feelings of attraction towards her.”
Jones was told she would ‘never teach again’ as she was sentenced to eight months in jail last year but she was not made subject to a s*xual harm prevention order.
Now, she faces misconduct proceedings brought by the Teaching Regulation Agency.
During her sentencing in October 2021, Judge Chris Smith heard how the two would meet at a park and would hold hands after the initial contact.
Jon Harley, prosecuting, stated: “The couple went on to walk in the more remote parts of the park or sit in the rear of Ms Jones car. They kissed, they embraced and on one occasion they both removed their upper clothing and were naked from the waist up.”
“This was always accompanied by, what is described as, intense pre and post texting with Ms Jones acknowledging that what she was doing was wrong and taking risks,” Harley continued.
The affair only came to light when Jones’ husband Philip started to suspect his wife was having a secret relationship with someone.
She admitted to an affair but first said that it was with a female teaching assistant at the school.
Sentencing Jones to eight months in jail, Judge Smith said: “Every parent who sends their child to school expects them to be kept safe by those in to whose care they entrust their child.”
