Taylor Swift was filmed choking up as she became overcome with emotion when she devoted her song to her fan who died from heat exhaustion at her concert in Brazil.
The 33-year-old Grammy winner returned to the stage in Rio de Janeiro to resume her Eras Tour after postponing her concerts following the death of her 23-year-old fan Ana Clara Benevides.
In a clear show of respect to the young lady, Swift sang her tear-jerking track ‘Bigger Than the Whole Sky’ while tearing up and struggling to get words out of her mouth.
“Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye / You were bigger than the whole sky / You were more than just a short time,” the Bad Blood hitmaker sang.
“I’m never gonna meet / What could’ve been, would’ve been / What should’ve been you / What could’ve been, would’ve been you.”
The performance was well-accepted by Swifties in the audience and across the globe who applauded the singer for “playing her song for the girl” who died at her concert.
“I can feel her hurt, the impact of what happened. Her voice… her emotion,” someone wrote.
“I already have immense respect for @taylorswift13 but after tonight’s surprise song, it has tripled. That must have been so hard for her to perform, for the original meaning and why she chose to play it tonight,” another gushed.
A third fan said: “She played her heart out on that piano, you can tell she was doing it all for Ana.”
The concert comes just days after 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides collapsed in the front row and succumbed to heat exhaustion due to intense heat at the stadium.
While the young girl was immediately transported to the hospital, she could sadly not be saved.
