A Taco Bell employee was fatally shot by angry customers during a heated argument.
41-year-old Alejandro Garcia, who worked at a drive-thru Taco Bell in south Los Angeles together with his son, was shot by two diners who tried to use a fake bill to pay for their order.
According to the local reports, two men attempted to pay for food using a fake $20 bill. Garcia, who was a father of three, then confronted the pair about the bill and refused to accept it as payment.
That’s when one of the two men pulled out his gun and shot the employee in the torso. After the shooting, the two diners fled the scene in a black sedan.
“My nephew was close by so he closed the window but the shots … they went in. [Garcia] got shot in the heart, and that’s what killed him, and he died there … in front of his son’s presence,” Nancy Garcia, the man’s cousin, expressed in an interview with KABC.
As the police have revealed since the tragic incident, another person, who remains unnamed, was stabbed with a knife at the scene of the shooting.
As of this writing, the hunt for the two males continues and the authorities have yet to identify and arrest the suspects.
According to ABC 7 News, the suspects are believed to be two young men between 20 and 25 years old.
Following the shooting, Taco Bell has released the following statement:
“We are shocked and saddened to hear that this happened. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the team member in this difficult time.
“We understand the owner and operator of this location is working with the local authorities in their investigation and has reached out directly to the affected family to offer support.”
Our thoughts are with Garcia’s family and friends during these challenging times.
