A 72-year-old hospital patient has been arrested in Germany for switching off her roommate’s ventilator.
According to reports from local media outlets, the patient mentioned how the sound was really loud and annoying for her and therefore she had no choice but to do the unthinkable, leaving doctors and other members of the hospital staff in a state of complete shock and bewilderment.
Now, the woman has been taken under police custody and charged with attempted manslaughter in Germany.
The incident took place in Mannheim during the evening hours of Tuesday. This is when both police and prosecutors mentioned that the hospital staff got an idea that something was not quite right about the matter. The woman is believed to have switched off the patient’s vent not once but twice.
The patient continued to argue with the hospital staff about how nosy the machine was and therefore she was finding it hard to live in peace. But the hospital staff kept on telling her that this patient needed the vent and it was life-saving for her.
However, despite this justification being provided, she opted to move ahead and turn the life-supporting vent machine off again during the evening hours.
The bed-bound patient was relying solely on the oxygen machine and she was described to be a critically ill 79-year-old woman. Despite all of these details being provided, the suspect carried on with the attempted manslaughter behavior and is now in police custody for the terrifying act.
Thankfully, the hospital and critical care staff were made aware of her behavior and that is probably what saved her in more ways than one she is believed to be carrying on with her treatment on the vent.
