An 11-year-old school shooting survivor told Congress how she was forced to cover herself in her friend’s blood to trick the gunman into thinking she was already dead.
During a hearing to the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Miah Cerrillo insisted that there will be more school shootings, adding she doesn’t feel safe anymore.
In her heartbreaking testimony, the fourth-grader recalled how she saw her friend was shot and her teacher gunned down before she covered her shirt in blood.
A pediatrician who cared for the young girl after the shooting incident told the hearing how Cerrillo was left shaking while sitting in the hospital emergency room.
The 11-year-old survivor pleaded for more safety in schools as she believes that it will happen again.
“(The gunman) shot the little window and then he moved to the other classrooms and then he went – there’s a door between our classrooms – and he went through there. Then shot my teacher and told my teacher ‘goodnight’ and shot her in the head,” she recalled.
“And then he shot some of my classmates and the white board,” Cerrillo continued.
“When I went to the backpacks, he shot my friend that was next to me and I thought he was going to come back to the room.
“So I grabbed the blood and I put it all over me. I stayed quiet and then I got my teachers’ phone and called 9-1-1… and told her that we need help.”
18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, leaving 19 children and two teachers dead.
Before he drove to the school, he reportedly shot his grandmother because of an argument over his phone bill.
Ramos was then shot by law enforcement.
